For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
This certainly is the most wonderful time of the year! From Thanksgiving Day on, our world stops to give thanks, spend time with family and friends, give presents, host and attend parties, decorate their homes, and celebrate the birth of Jesus!
In our home,we enjoy Thanksgiving Day with both of our families together. We count ourselves extra blessed – we get to enjoy one, big meal with both Tyler’s family and my family together around a table. To think! We all get along and even more we share the same faith.
Then, Tyler and I decorate our home. This year, we had Leland on our hip, and he loves to look at the lights. Already we have baby’s first Christmas ornaments on the tree.
I prepare lists – Christmas card lists, Christmas gift and budget lists, and Christmas Open House preparation lists.
We fill our calendar with all that we want to do, have been invited to attend, and our family get togethers.
I like to have the home decorated early to enjoy it all month long. And I like to make a plan and spread the to-dos out throughout the month so nothing gets piled on top of each other and so I can enjoy all of the FUN this season has to offer.
I like to send out our Christmas cards at the beginning of December – it starts the season nicely for me. And I like to plan our Christmas Open House.
We have a Christmas Open House each year to invite our friends and family into our home to enjoy warm Christmas cheer. We use this as an opportunity to see friends that are coming back home for the holidays, as a time for simply loving on those who love us so well.
We attend church musicals, my family’s tradition Family Christmas Day, our church’s Christmas Eve service, and enjoy a big breakfast all together Christmas morning.
It’s exciting to enjoy this most wonderful time of the year with our baby boy – and to think about all of the fun we will have with him, with our family and friends, on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day – this year and in years to come.
