The first week of December is nearly complete, and already you may feel like the holiday is running right past you. You haven’t begun Advent, you haven’t begun shopping, and your tree is still perched on some lot somewhere.
Yes, the Lord allows tangibles to open our hearts to Him. But candles alone, gifts alone, and a tree alone isn’t what Christmas is all about.
Christmas is about celebrating Christ’s birthday, about welcoming Jesus, Savior of the World, Immanuel, God with us, into your home, into your heart. About sharing Him with your family and friends, neighbors and co-workers, children and class-mates. About remembering, even without the aid of a candles, gifts, and an evergreen tree, that He’s the Light, He’s our Gift, He brings eternal life. The candles, the gift-giving, the tree is to aid us in our celebration, but He is our Celebration.
So, when He comes, invite Him in. Prepare Him room. Say yes to Him like Joseph. Rush to see Him like the shepherds; worship Him like the wise men. Sing with the angels. Don’t let whatever isn’t done distract you from who He is. Don’t let whoever isn’t appeased keep you from worshipping Him. Come and worship Christ the Lord, the Newborn King!
